Michael E. Keefer

MSc, PAg, Ecologist & Ethnobotanist

Michael Keefer, owner of KES, is recognized as one of the foremost experts in the Province on indigenous plants, including their ethnobotany and applications in ecological restoration and propagation. He has over 15 years experience working in senior roles on projects as diverse as aboriginal ethnobiology with the Ktunaxa Nation, the development and management of a native plant nursery (ongoing), mycological research, and the ecological remediation of the drawdown zones of BC Hydro reservoirs (ongoing). An underlying thread with Michael’s work is his passion for ecological sustainability and love of nature that is reflected in his career and business decisions.

Randy Moody

MSc, RPBio, Ecologist

Randy Moody, M.Sc., R.P.Bio., is an experienced plant ecologist specializing in whitebark pine recovery, vegetation mapping and inventory, and ecological restoration. Randy holds a Masters degree in Forest Sciences as well as a Bachelor degree in Natural Resources Conservation from UBC. He is a Registered Professional Biologist with the BC College of Applied Biology.

Jennifer Meade

BA, MA, Financial Manager

Jennifer Meade is an experienced research coordinator, liaison and business manager with more than ten years professional experience in corporate environments and the non-proft sector. She is responsible for financial administration and highly involved in project management, business development and reporting. Jennifer holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in International Development from Dalhousie University and a Masters of Arts from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) at the University of London. She is currently working toward a Certifed Management Accountant (CMA) designation.

Alison Kennedy

MSc, PAg, Plant Scientist

Ali, MSc, PAg, has a diverse scientific background – she fully acknowledged her love of plants in her third year of Biology at the University of Victoria, and went on to obtain her Masters from the University of Saskatchewan in the College of Agriculture and Bioresources, where she specialized in straw fibre concentration in oilseed flax varieties.  Ali has recently discovered a healthy respect for invasive plants.  In her spare time she plays ultimate frisbee, plays with her dogs, and runs.

Krystal Kerckhoff

MSc, RPBio, Wildlife Biologist

Krystal Kerckhoff (Dixon) is a wildlife biologist with a broad range of experience conducting field work and wildlife studies throughout North America.  This includes work for several years based out of Cranbrook, BC, as well as work in northern Alberta and Newfoundland.  She has been involved with projects focusing on red- and blue-listed species including grizzly bears, northern goshawks, Williamson’s sapsucker, along with forest habitat elements and landscape-scale habitat assessments. Krystal completed her MSc. degree at Lakehead University where she studied habitat selection of moose in Gros Morne National Park. She has worked in the East Kootenay since the summer of 2004. When Krystal is not working, she spends her time white water canoeing, birding and hanging out with her dog.

Silvie Fojtik

B.Eng, Greenhouse Systems & Restoration Technician

Silvie Fojtik recently completed her Bachelors in Water Resources Engineering. While in university, she held several research assistant positions within the Land Resources and Engineering departments. During her final student summer placement, Silvie confirmed her passion for natural treatment systems by working on an alternative on-site wastewater system utilizing wetland plants. Silvie also recently held an engineering position with an international engineering company working on a large land remediation project in Toronto.  Beyond her technical employment, Silvie has been an active community member having lead multiple campus and community campaigns, given workshops, hosted a radio show on community airways, written articles and volunteered in El Salvador with a local water and sanitation organization.

Peter Kerckhoff

B.Sc, RPF, Restoration Forester

Peter Kerckhoff is a forester with a BSc. in Natural Resources Management – Forestry from UNBC, in Prince George. He spent his earlier working years as a sawyer on a logging crew in Ontario, but has worked in silviculture in western Canada since 2005. After graduating in 2007 from UNBC, he wrote his professional exam and became a RPF in 2010. In his free time, Peter enjoys canoeing and skiing.

Cory Peters

BA, Business & Administration Coordinator

Having grown up on a farm in Saskatchewan Cory brings a jack-of-all-trade perspective to his work. He is a proven administrative professional with a diverse experience in grant proposal writing, project management, and organizational support. With a Bachelor of Art in International Development Studies from Canadian Mennonite University Cory brings a multi-disciplinary approach to the work he performs, in addition to a keen interest in environment issues.  Outside of work Cory enjoys gardening, cycling, and throwing around the Frisbee.

Dave Couse

ISA Certified Arborist, Field Technician

Dave is a dedicated and meticulous worker who prides himself on the high quality of his work. He is more than capable of working independently without supervision and he is always a dynamic and supportive team player.  He is a very knowledgeable Arborist and Horticulturalist with a diversity of skills including the operation of equipment and machinery.

Sonja Leverkus

PhD. Cand., PAg, RPBio, Landscape Ecologist

Sonja is a landscape ecologist and has extensive experience working in Northern BC.  She has 6 years of experience working the BC Forest Service including range management and planning, prescribed fire planning and implementation and invasive species management.  She is pursuing her PhD in natural resource ecology and management with a focus on pyric herbivory and landscape ecology along with the ecological restoration of an endangered species, wood bison.  Sonja has worked closely with stakeholders including Guide Outfitters, Ranchers, local community members and Government Agencies as well as with the Treaty 8 First Nations in North East BC.  Sonja is passionate about conserving biodiversity.
